Let’s taste the Japanese national food “Udon”!
Udon is a type of thick wheat flour noodle of Japanese cuisine.
Udon is often served hot as a noodle soup in its simplest form. It is usually topped with thinly chopped scallions. Other common toppings include tempura, often prawn or kakiage (a type of mixed tempura fritter), or aburaage, a type of deep-fried tofu pockets seasoned with sugar, mirin, and soy sauce. A thin slice of kamaboko, a halfmoon-shaped fish cake, is often added.
Depending on the area you are, Udon noodles and taste vary. That is especially for gourmets a reason to travel around the country and try different flavors.
In Fukuoka, many delicious Udon noodle restaurants are assembled in Kurume area.
We picked a famous and very popular restaurant called “Tachibana Udon” for our report.
Our reporter Sam ordered the most popular menu, “Niku Gobouten Udon” (Meat and greater burdock Udon).
One of the specialties at this restaurant is that you can customize your dish with various toppings. All in all, soft noodles and rich flavor soup combined with free toppings. That’s the reason why Tachibana Udon is so famous.
