Experiencing Moe at Japanese Maid Café “Maidreamin”!

Contents

A maid café is a thematic café where cute waitresses dressed up as maids wait on and entertain you. Today Kin and Sui visited a maid café in Kitakyushu, “Maidreamin Kokura AruAru City” to show you what’s so great about this café.

What is a maid café?

First Maid Café Experience at “Maidreamin”!

We visited “Maidreaming Kokura AruAru City”. “AruAru City” is a shopping mall in Kokura where you can find just about anything related to Japanese pop culture such as anime, manga, games and idols.

The moment we entered the café the maids quickly greeted us with a, “Okaerinasaimase, goshujin-sama!” (Welcome back, master!)

We were immediately taken aback by the maids’ extreme cuteness!

Upon entering the café we noticed its cute pink-themed interior. The maid showed us to our table and quickly proceeded to explain how the café’s system works.

At Maidreamin there is an entrance fee (table charge) of 500 yen per person per hour. The average total cost including the entrance fee, food and service therefore comes to around 1000 to 3500 yen per person. You must order at least one item per hour, so if you would like to extend your stay, you will need to pay the table charge and order at least one item per hour.

After she finished explaining how the café works, the maid then wrote our names on an “invitation letter” which is given to first-time customers upon their first visit.

We then had a look at the menu. Everything on the menu was just so cute that it was hard to choose!

For first-time customers they recommend the set menu which includes food, a drink and a souvenir photo with the maids (Polaroid or using your own phone + a souvenir) all for one low price.

Their full menu is available in English, and their set menu is also available in Korean and Chinese in addition to English, making the café very foreigner friendly.

There is a special rule at Maidreamin. When you want to call a maid, you have to say “nyan nyan” (nyan is the sound a cat makes in Japanese).

It was kind of embarrassing but we had a lot of fun!

While we were waiting for our order, the maid brought us some “Moe Water”.If you drink too much of it, you will get all moe-moe (become infatuated, develop a crush). And then…

We got these cute little ears! (^_^)

At Maidreamin you can spend a magical moment immersed in this dreamland of cuteness.

Our first dish was the “Twin Bears Omelette Rice” (1580 yen). The maid drew a cute kitty on the omelette! This is the kind of experience you can only have at a maid café.

Next came the “Bunny Parfait” dessert set (880 yen). Look at how adorable it is! It almost feels like a shame to eat a parfait this cute.

Finally, out came the “LOVE Cocktaileamin” (1240 yen).
The maid shakes the cocktail right in front of you while saying moe-moe (uber cute!) words. It’s even more fun if you say something moe-moe along with the maids, so why don’t you give it a try?

But before eating, together we all cast a magic spell to make the foods even tastier!

画像の説明

“Oishikunare! (Become delicious!) Moe-Moe Kyun!”

It was a bit embarrassing but we worked our magic drawing a cute little heart with our hands.

It’s time to eat! First, we tried the omelette rice. The omelette oh so soft.

“I can’t eat something this cute!” said Kin as she struggled to eat the bear’s cute little face. However, after she finally tried it she was very pleasantly surprised by the taste. (^_^)

Next, we tried the Bunny Parfait! This time we didn’t even hesitate to eat the cute little bunny face.

The maids visited us from time to time throughout our meal. In addition to their cute foods, chatting with the cute maids is yet another reason why maid cafés are so popular.

At Maidreamin you can also request a live performance (1200 yen).

At Maidreamin’s Kokura AruAru City location they sometimes break out at random in a surprise performance. You can even participate in the performance and join in on the fun yourself!

At the end of our visit we took a Polaroid with the maids. They even wrote cute little drawings on the picture for us.Taking pictures of the maids is not permitted at maid cafés, so if you would like to take a picture with them, you should choose the Polaroid photograph service.

Whether you come as a family, couple, or a group of friends, maid cafés have something for everybody! So be sure to try it out the next time you are in Japan!
